Who collects your personal data?
The data controller is Scottish Natural Heritage known as NatureScot at:

What personal data is collected and how it's used
NatureScot may use the data from:
- research carried out on the Species at Risk database - you will be asked to complete a consent form if you take part.
- the Species at Risk online feedback form – you will not be asked for your name or address but may add your contact details if you wish.
Any data captured will be used to help us to develop or improve the Species at Risk service.
The legal basis for using your personal data
Processing your data is necessary for the development and improvement of our services and as a result we are using your data for a performance of a task carried out in the public interest.
This means you have the right to:
- ask for copies of information about you and be told why we’re using it;
- have incorrect information about you corrected;
- object to your information being used by NatureScot because of your specific situation;
- restrict our use of information about you where:
- we are using incorrect information;
- our use of your information is unlawful and you want us to restrict its use rather than delete it;
- NatureScot doesn’t need your information any more but you need it for legal action;
- you have the right to object to information and you are using that right.
Consent to use your data
The processing of your data is based on your consent:
- if you agree to take part in user research you will be asked to complete a consent form
- by providing any personal details on the Species at Risk feedback form (although you will not be asked to provide them) you are giving your consent for us to process your data
How long NatureScot will hold the data
We will keep any data captured in relation to developing or improving the Species at Risk database for up to three years.
Who NatureScot may share data with
We may share findings from our research or other insights from the service with the organisations in the table below to help them to improve their services.
You will not be able to be identified from any information we share.
